Province receives measles vaccination

The Western Cape Health Department is running a mass vaccination campaign in the province.

The campaign is against measles, following an outbreak at several schools at the beginning of this month.

The campaign will target all areas, and thus far, in the Drakenstein and Stellenbosch areas over 5,000 children under the age of five have been vaccinated.

The department’s Jo-Anne Otto said, “As of next week children between the ages of 6 and 59 months will be vaccinated. Parents should visit clinics rather than wait for us.”

Health officials in the public and private sector have been requested to be on the look-out for measles symptoms in patients, and to report it immediately to the department, EWN reports.
