Zesco United put an end to Konkola Blades’ good run of form when they beat the team 2-0 to stake their claim in the Zambia Premier League title race.
Strikes from Lazarus Kambole and Idris Mbombo ensured there was not to be another giant-killing act by the recently promoted Blades after they had earlier beat Green Buffaloes 1-0 on April 15.
But Blades did not make it easy at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola after packing men behind the ball to frustrate Zesco’s attack.
However, Zesco managed to score on the stroke of half-time when Kambole headed in a cross from defender Fackson Kapumbu.
Team Ya Ziko could have made it 2-0 in the 71st minute but striker Jesse Were saw his penalty saved by goalkeeper Reagan Simango.
Nonetheless, Mbombo made sure of the three points four minutes later when he nodded in another Kapumbu cross to confirm the result.
Meanwhile, Zesco stay home this Saturday where they host Nchanga Rangers. The in-form outfit are now unbeaten in seven competitive matches in 2017 with five wins and two draws.
