Modise is currently a free agent after refusing to sign a new contract with the Brazilians in a bid to find regular first-team football and has subsequently been linked with the Students and Cape Town City.
However, Wits CEO Jose Ferreira denied the speculation, claiming their recent additions to the club’s midfield would mean Gavin Hunt would not be able to accomodate the former Bafana Bafana star.
Daylon Claasen arrived at the Bidvest Stadium this week after nine years in Europe, while Thami Sangweni is expected to join the Clever Boys from Chippa United – after already being spotted at the club’s training ground.
“We get telephone calls from agents all the time,” he told reporters. “Have I been approached about Modise, yes, I have been approached by agents for 200 or 300 different players.
“Teko Modise is a fantastic player, but do we need a player like Teko Modise at Wits? I think our midfield is one of the strongest in the country at the moment, so would it make sense to sign Teko Modise? I think the answer is clearly not.”
