Bidvest Wits went down 2-1 after a last minute penalty to SS Saint-Louisienne from Reunion Island in their preliminary CAF Champions League clash at the Stade Théophile Hoarau on Saturday.
Wits opened the scoring minutes before the break through in-form forward Hellings Gabadinho Mhango – with a deserved and vital away goal.
However, the Reunion Premier League side fought back after the break with an equaliser on 65 minutes and a last-minute penalty to steal a 2-1 victory over Gavin Hunt’s side.
Despite the loss, the Clever Boys will still have the chance to overturn the deficit in the second-leg at the Bidvest Stadium on the 18th of February.
The winner of the two-legged tie move on to face Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the first-round of the competition.
