Wanyama made ambassador for youth tourney

Harambee Stars captain and Tottenham Hotspurs midfielder Victor Wanyama has been made ambassador for August’s Chapa Dimba na Safaricom football challenge.

The event features males and females from 16 to 20 years old, with the winners getting a healthy financial reward, as well as winning a week-long trip to visit Spurs in London.

The powerful midfielder told Standard Media, “It is great to see such a noble initiative by Safaricom. If we can run it for a long time, we can create many more stars in the future. I believe there is more talent in the grassroots.

“It is the dream of each young footballer to go to England either as a player or to watch the game. It will be a good experience for the winning team and I am looking forward to meet them in London.”

Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore added, “We chose Victor as our ambassador because he presents all the values that we believe in. He is hard-working and committed. It is very rare to find a footballer who is as dedicated and disciplined like him.”
