La Roja have already booked their place in Russia as Group G winners, but are looking to be top-seeded at next year’s tournament ahead of the match in Jerusalem.
“I won’t say my XI, but there will be changes and we’ll refresh the team,” said Spain boss Julen Lopetegui ahead of the match. “Anyone here can play. We’re prioritising the team, creating one that’s interchangeable.”
One of the players set to capitalise could be Viera. The 29-year-old has impressed with Las Palmas in recent seasons, and is looking to get his first cap for the senior national team.
“I appreciate the opportunity,” Viera said. “Now I just want to take advantage of it.”
Lopetegui’s most recent team, for Friday’s 3-0 win over Albania, featured Isco and David Silva either side of centre-forward Rodrigo in a front three. Viera’s competition for a starting berth will come from other wide players in the squad like Marco Asensio, Pedro, or Jose Callejon.
