Toro Rosso confirm Kvyat dropped for Gasly

Toro Rosso have confirmed that Pierre Gasly will replace Daniil Kvyat for the next ‘grands prix’, starting in Malaysia this weekend.

Strong rumours have been circulating that the Russian would be dropped in order to give Gasly a chance to prove himself in Formula 1 ahead of a potential full-time move in 2018 once Carlos Sainz makes his move to Renault.

The expectation is for Gasly to take part in Malaysia and Japan before Kvyat comes back in for the USA race due to Gasly’s Super Formula commitments.

But Toro Rosso have not confirmed the specific timetable between the two. Nevertheless, Gasly is understandably ecstatic to finally get an opportunity in Formula 1 following a lengthy wait.
