Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler hailed his team’s work ethic following their 1-0 victory against Mamelodi Sundowns, which took them top of the Premiership table.
The Mother City-based outfit achieved a unique feat last done by Moroka Swallows in the 2012/13 campaign by completing a league double over Sundowns.
City now occupy top place on the table with 38 points amassed from their 20 games and Tinkler highlighted the importance of his side’s desire to win.
“Our work ethic was phenomenal, you could the boys really wanted it, which was extremely important,” he said.
“The first half, I thought we started quite well, there were occasions where we gave them opportunities and we felt were giving them a little too much time on the ball.
“We dealt with that on occasions, it became more problematic through the middle, every time they got on the ball, they carved through the middle of us, so second half we opted to go back with our normal and it paid dividends.
“It’s all down the players, the work ethic they showed, the discipline defensively, but it was also an entertaining game for everybody, back and forth, the chances they had, the chances we had, but I think overall we deserved the win.”
