Tiger Woods released a statement after being arrested for driving under the influence on Monday morning saying that “alcohol was not involved.”
Woods released the statement through his publicists on Monday evening, blaming his arrest on prescription drugs. Woods need DUI help to deal with drug related arrest “What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications,” Woods said in the statement. “I didn’t realise the mix of medications had affected me so strongly.”
The pro golfer had a fourth surgery to his back on April 20 and has only played twice this year.
According to police reports, Woods was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail at 07:18 and released at 10:50.
Woods lives in Jupiter Island, Florida. In his statement, took full responsibility for his actions and apologised to his fans and family over the incident.
“I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions, I would like to with all my heart apologise to my family, friends and the fans. I expect more from myself too. I will do everything in my power to ensure this never happens again.”
Woods has not won a major championship since the 2008 U.S Open, which was followed by major surgery to his knee and leg.
In November the following year, he was involved in a car crash near his former Orlando home, which led to revelations about his serial infidelity and divorce.
