Super Eagles move up FIFA rankings

In the global FIFA rankings announced earlier this week, Nigeria have climbed one position from 39th to the 38th seemingly as a result of good form in World Cup qualifying.

Despite a recent defeat to South Africa in a Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in June, the Super Eagles have a 100% record in their World Cup campaign after wins over Zambia and Algeria.

As such, the Gernot Rohr-coached outfit are in a good position in Group B although they do face a tough encounter against fellow West African giant, Cameroon, in early September.

The Indomitable Lions, despite losing four of their last five matches, have also climbed one spot to 37th in the world as well as fifth overall on the continent.

Meanwhile, Brazil retain the number position in the world after replacing World and Confederations Cup champions, Germany, on the table. Argentina are third, Switzerland fourth and Poland come in fifth.
