Bidvest Wits made short work of Ajax Cape Town in their Premiership encounter at the Bidvest Stadium on Tuesday night, claiming a mammoth 5-0 win.
- Bidvest Wits 5 Ajax Cape Town 0
- Mahlambi opens scoring
- Hlatshwayo doubles advantage
- Mhango makes it three
- Keene and Mhango completes the rout
The Clever Boys were dominant pretty much throughout the match with Phakamani Mahlambi giving them a well-deserved lead in the 21st minute, before Thulani Hlatshwayo made it 2-0 ten minutes later.
After the break it was more of the same with Malawian striker Gabadinho Mhango adding his name to the scoresheet in the 59th minute and James Keene making it 4-0 less than 120 seconds later before Mhango completed his brace in the 78th minute.
Wits came into the match flying high, level on points with Cape Town City and SuperSport United at the top of the Premiership standings and proved their title credentials with another superb display against the Urban Warriors.
Despite their clear dominance, they nearly found themselves behind in the 16th minute when Darren Keet had to pull off a fine save to deny Tashreeq Morris.
Unfortunately for the visitors, that was pretty much their best chance of the entire game and it was pretty much all the Clever Boys for the remainder of the match.
Just four minutes after Ajax’s chance, the hosts made their pressure pay as Mahlambi showed his positional awareness and cool head in front of goal to slot his side into the lead.
Mahlambi and Elias Pelembe were a constant nuisance to the Ajax back four, but it would be Hlatshwayo who would double their advantage as he rose to head home a Mogakolodi Ngele corner in the 31st minute.
