Wanderers are currently mired in the relegation places in the division and are in serious danger of suffering the dreaded drop. The minister, who is an ardent fan, was speaking at a fundraising event in Lusaka last Saturday.
The outfit from Mufulira have been one of the nation’s most successful clubs over the years since formation in 1953, but have seen a decline in fortunes since winning their last league title in 1996.
Financial problems have reportedly contributed to the demise of the former Zambian giants. Mushimba said: “Mighty has a rich history and has produced some of the best players in this country.
“Among them Kalusha Bwalya, a former national team captain and 1988 African Footballer of the Year. We came on board to support this event because we know it is difficult to run a team without proper support.”
