Sterling: Man City must fight for silverware

Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling is determined to fight for the Premier League title this season, after big spending in the transfer market.

The Citizens spent over £50m to bring Tottenham’s Kyle Walker to the Etihad Stadium, after forking out £34.7m for Benfica goalkeeper Ederson, and £43m for AS Monaco’s Bernardo Silva.

Pep Guardiola’s side flattered to deceive last season, finishing 15 points behind winner Chelsea in the top-flight title race, and Sterling admits they have to do much better this time around.

“We need to be winning trophies; we need to be getting that Premier League title back,” Sterling said, according to Sky Sports.

“For me, that’s the most important thing for next year to be the best team in England and we’ve already made some fantastic signings this summer that will only strengthen an already strong squad.”

The last time City claimed the Premier League crown was in the 2013/14 season. Between 2011 and 2015 they won the title twice and finished runners-up in the other two seasons.
