Jaap Stam’s agent says his client is not in the running for the Ajax post as he concentrates on his job at Reading.
The 44-year-old former FC Zwolle assistant and interim boss, has previously coached Jong Ajax while also assisting the Ajax senior side.
He is currently entering the second year of his two-year deal with the Championship side, having led them to a third-placed finish in the English second-tier, where they missed out on Premier League promotion in the play-offs.
Ajax are without a manager after Peter Bosz joined Borussia Dortmund this week.
Agent Henk van Ginkel, told Voetbal Primeur: “Jaap Stam will definitely not be a trainer at Ajax.
“Jaap is in his mind in England, and he is not at all approached.”
Ajax’s U23 boss Marcel Keizer has since emerged as the favourite for the job that had previously seen Erik ten Hag and Roger Schmidt in contention.
Stam, meanwhile, has been linked with the vacant managerial position at Leeds United.
