A brace from Koke along with goals from Thomas Partey, Angel Correa and Yannick Carrasco were enough to secure the Madrid club their first win of the new season and saw them climb to third in the La Liga table.
The result helped coach Simeone put the frustration of last weekend’s draw with Girona behind him and the Argentinean was visibly elated when discussing the win with reporters in a post-match press conference.
“The game was very good, we started with energy, dynamism and knowing where we could do damage,” Simeone said. “It helped us take the lead quickly and then another match started. In the second half, we played in the best way possible.
“We were lucky to have a great game like last season. It’s not easy if you concede a goal in opening five minutes. “Las Palmas tried, but my players responded very well to the changes in system.
“I always look for the best and imagine that we can pose danger in any situation. We were ruthless and had the ambition to go for the win.
“Without the humility to run and defending like we did, we wouldn’t have been able to achieve this result,” he added.
Following next weekend’s international break, Los Rojiblancos travel to Estadio de Mestalla where they will take on Valencia in their third La Liga match of the season.
