Bulls and Springbok centre Jan Serfontein has decided not to extend his contract at the Bulls and wants to explore playing opportunities abroad.
The 2012 Junior World Player has been linked to several French clubs, according to Times Live.
Should he decide to leave, he may still be eligible for Springbok selection, as he only needs four more tests to reach the 30-cap mark which is the cut off for overseas-based players.
Having been offered improved terms on a dual contract with SA Rugby and the Bulls, an SA Rugby spokesperson confirmed he turned down the offer.
“The player informed the parties concerned of his desire to explore playing opportunities abroad‚ and in view of this‚ Jan has therefore opted not to renew the national contract offered to him‚” SA Rugby said in a short statement.
The 25-year-old has battled to get back to his best because of injury woes ever since the 2015 World Cup in which replaced Jean de Villiers.
