Rennie admits Chiefs-Crusaders rivalry

Chiefs head coach Dave Rennie admits there’s animosity between his team and the Crusaders ahead of the sides’ Super Rugby semi-final clash in Christchurch on Saturday.

Rennie took over the reins at the Chiefs in 2012 and masterminded back-to-back Super Rugby titles in 2012 and 2013.

They beat the Crusaders in the semi-final on both ocassions on their way to glory. During Rennie’s tenure, the Chiefs have won nine of the 13 meetings between the sides.

Those 13 meetings have been characterised by some nasty brawls and shoving matches and when Rennie was asked if there is any ‘hate’ between the two sides, he responded:

“That’s pretty accurate, I’d say,” Rennie told New Zealand’s Radio Sport on Friday.

“There have been some titanic clashes – they’re always physical, all the Kiwi games are.

“This will be no different and there’s more on the line. It should be a pretty brutal affair.”
