Read suffered the injury late in a match that saw Bryn Hall, Israel Dagg and Seta Tamanivalu (2) cross as they booked a place in the final.
Afterwards, Crusaders head coach Scott Robertson did not have a great deal to offer in terms of the problem as they now wait on his fate.
“Yeah, he tweaked a knee and we will check him out,” the head coach revealed to Stuff. “I cannot give you any more information for him.”
There is also a slight concern over tighthead prop Owen Franks as he did not reappear for the second period on Saturday, with Robertson saying it was more a precaution: “It was a cold night and we thought it was best to go off at halftime for him, once he had cooled down.”
Defensively the Crusaders were once again excellent as they only let the Chiefs in late on, with coach Robertson admitting they did well.
“You wouldn’t have realised the Chiefs had just got off the plane (from Cape Town, South Africa) would you?” continued the head coach.
“Talking to Dave Rennie, he said they had had a great week and were really confident. That if they got a couple of opportunities, then they were a chance. But we just limited those.”
