Kaizer Chiefs defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele praised the Soweto giants mental strength after they secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Chippa United in their Premiership clash on Saturday.
The slender victory at the Mbombela Stadium came courtesy from a late strike from second-half substitute George Lebese, after the Chilli Boys frustrated Amakhosi for large spells of the encounter.
However, the Bafana Bafana right-back admitted the Glamour Boys were suitably prepared to handle Dan Malesela’s sides possession based tactics.
“I think we did well as a team and we fought very hard. Chippa United is not an easy team to pay against. They keep the ball, they frustrate you, you have to press and if you don’t get the ball you have nothing,” he said after the game.
“If you are our approach we are a team that wants to have the ball and now we come up against people who also want to have the ball, so it’s always going to be difficult.
“But we knew the longer we stayed in the game and tried to control the game, something has to give. I’m just glad we got the three points.”
Steve Komphela’s side moved joint top of the Premiership with Cape Town City on 45 points.
