Bundesliga club Schalke will wait until July before they make a decision on Chelsea-owned defender Baba Rahman, who is currently injured.
The Ghanaian spent last season on loan in Germany and initially made a positive impact, only to have his season cut short by a knee injury at the African Cup of Nations in January.
Schalke general manager Christian Heidel says his club are potentially interested in making a bid to sign the player outright from the English champions, but first want more clarity on his injury situation.
“Our team doctor met with Baba in London,” Heidel told Bild.
“His knee injury is much more complex and lengthy than anticipated.
“We will wait until July and then decide with Baba and his agent whether it makes sense to open negotiations with Chelsea.”
The 22-year-old made 13 Bundesliga appearances last season, having played in 15 league games for the Blues the season before.
