Bayern Munich defender Rafinha has declared that he expects to be the number one choice at right-back next season, or he may look to move elsewhere.
The Brazilian has been second in the pecking order behind World Cup winner Philipp Lahm. However, the Bayern captain is retiring at the end of the season, which should see Rafinha become the preferred starter.
The 31-year-old is looking forward to next season, in anticipation of playing a more important role at the club, but has made it clear that he will move on if that does not happen.
“That’s up to the coach, but I want to play. I’ve been at Bayern for six years and I’ve been waiting for my time to come,” he told the official Bundesliga website when asked if he thought he would become first-choice at right-back.
“I’ve done well every time I’ve played and I’ve shown I’ve got the quality needed to play. I think my time has come and I’m ready.
“If I don’t play, I’ll have to look elsewhere. My aim is to play for Bayern. Next season will be my season and I don’t see anyone else other than me playing at right-back.”
