Race car sprays burning fuel into crowd injuring 12

Twelve people sustained serious injury after a  car at a drag racing event in Australia sprayed burning fuel over a crowd.

One person sustained critical injuries, while eleven others are said to be in a critical but stable condition.

The twelve were injured at an event at the Red CentreNATS event in Alice Springs, Australia, on Sunday.

“Twelve patients are currently being treated at Alice Springs Hospital. One patient is in a critical condition and the remaining 11 are in a serious but stable condition,” organizers said in a statement.

“This is a distressing situation, however all patients are receiving the care they need,” organizers said.

Footage taken by spectators at the event shows fuel igniting and flames being thrown over fans from a car that was skidding in circles.

The event was billed as the “Ultimate Festival of Wheels” and attracted thousands of motoring enthusiasts to the central Australian town for the weekend.

The event had to be shut down by organizers as police and fire authorities investigate.
