Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane hinted that his side were not intelligent enough during last Friday’s CAF Champions League 2-1 loss to Esperance in Group C.
The match appeared to be headed to a 1-1 draw before a foul in the closing moments in the box by Soumahoro Bangaly saw Taha Yassine Khenissi convert the winning goal from a penalty.
As such, Mosimane pointed out were he felt his team may have gone wrong. He told the Sowetan, “We just let ourselves down hey, in a critical phase in the 89th minute. We committed a foul – I think it’s a foul. (It’s) really, really, unbelievable.
“I’m not saying it was not a penalty, but they always put the leg there. You know the story. I told the guys that, ‘you got to be smart’. You can never ever try to play the way you do in the PSL in the Champions League, especially against the North Africans.”
