With league debuts for off-season signings Musa Nyatama, Thamsanqa Sangweni, and Wayne Sandilands – it appears the Buccaneers have built a new core to the side under the new management Micho Sredojevic.
However, it was left-back Innocent Maela who was the standout performer on the evening in his first game for the Buccaneers after returning from his stint at last season’s National First Division title winners, Thanda Royal Zulu.
The tireless full-back provided a youthful energy on the left flank and was the provider of the only goal of the game to set up Thamsanqa Gabuza.
“I’ll be honest, I was very nervous at the start of the game,” Maela told the club’s website. “But fortunately I have a good group of teammates who helped me along the way to calm my nerves.
“What also helps is the fact that I am surrounded by quality players, and this makes it easier for one to relax and focus on the simple things.
“As for my Man of the Match award, I would like to thank my teammates, the coaching staff as well as my family. Without them, I would not be able to achieve what I have.”
