Jupiter – up close and personal
A view of Jupiter’s southern hemisphere, showing the delineation between day and night.
The picture was taken by the Juno spacecraft, which will attempt to orbit Jupiter 32 times. Juno had completed it’s latest elliptical orbit around the largest planet in our solar system, and gives an enthralling view of its cloud systems.
Juno is on a six-year mission to study Jupiter, and determine whether the planet has a solid core beneath its thick clouds.
Juno launched from earth in 2011 and reached the large planet in July 2016.
