Payet sidelined for two weeks

French international midfielder Dimitri Payet has been ruled out of action for two weeks with a hamstring injury.

The Marseille playmaker was replaced at half-time of his side’s Ligue opening weekend win over Dijon on Saturday, by Clinton Njie, who went on to score the first and third goal of the game, either side of a Florian Thauvin strike.

A club statement read: “OM captain Dimitri Payet had a medical examination on Monday that found he had a lesion on his left hamstring.

“The player will be out of action for at least two weeks.”

Payet, who rejoined Marseille from West Ham this season, will miss league clashes with Nantes and Angers and the first leg of the Europa League play-off match with Slovenian side Domzale.
