Nagelsmann relishes Liverpool challenge

Hoffenheim coach Julian Nagelsmann is looking forward to kicking off his side’s Champions League campaign against a club he holds in extremely high regard.

As the Bundesliga’s youngest-ever coach prepares for a season that will test his managerial skills in both the domestic and European arenas, he discusses his respect for the English giants he will need to slay if he seeks a prolonged continental adventure.

“We have the opportunity to play a great team in a legendary stadium, which is something truly special,” he told reporters when asked about the prospect of facing the Reds in a must-win double-fixture.

“It’s great for the media and the fans, and Jurgen Klopp will be back in Germany. We’ll do everything in our power to get through. Liverpool are a phenomenal side, but I already have an idea how we can snatch a result,” the 30-year old stated.

Klopp himself also weighed in on the tantalising clash, assuring fans that we will not be taking it lightly.

“When you are fourth in Germany you are a strong side,” he told the official Liverpool website.

“Hoffenheim are a very interesting club, with a lot of really good young players and a very talented young coach. It’s a real challenge,” he added.

Nagelsmann also went on to discuss his decision to empower his players by allowing them to not only elect the club captain themselves, but also decide on the team’s objectives for the upcoming season.

“Last year I set out the targets, but this year I wanted it to be up to the players, like the choice of captain,” he said.

“If I find their ideas a little unambitious I may make some changes, but I know my players. They will be ambitious,” he stated.
