Morton: Nomvethe a role model

AmaZulu midfielder Michael Morton says veteran striker Siyabonga Nomvethe’s dedication to the game is a big inspiration to his team-mates.

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana striker Nomvethe remains an integral part of the AmaZulu side as he closes in on his 40th birthday; he banged in 17 goals for the club in the First Division last season.

Morton, who recently joined Usuthu from SuperSport United, says the former Udinese marksman’s presence and his professional attitude are a real boost to the team.

“Siyabonga Nomvethe is a great professional and a role-model to many,” Morton told the club’s website.

“He has been playing at the highest level for a very long time and there’s a lot that one can learn from him as a teammate.

“He’s done an unbelievable job of taking care of his body – hence he is still active and playing professional football.

“It’s great to have him as a teammate in the team. His experience will be very important to the team this season.”

The Durban side, who have three points from two matches, are next in action on 12 September when they host Maritzburg United in a KZN derby.
