Monday motivation: Being deaf no deterrent to singing

Has life not treated you well? Has something happened to you to make you lose all hope in ever accomplishing your dream? Do you need a reminder that you can succeed despite the odds?

Then Mandy Harvey’s story is just what you need!

At age 18, a connective tissue disorder that affected her nerves, resulted in Mandy losing her residual hearing.

Mandy was enrolled as a Vocal Music Education major at Colorado State University at the time.

She dropped out of the programme, and pursued several other options, but in 2008 returned to her first passion.

In 2011, she won VSA’s Top Young Soloist Award and performed at the Kennedy Centre in Washington D.C., as well as performing on television shows such as NBC Nights News, Canada AM and The Steve Harvey Show among others.

But Mandy’s audition for the current America’s Got Talent show not only brought the audience and judges to tears, but also took her incredibly talent viral.

Mandy, now 29, may have lost her hearing, but her perfect timing and pitch are amazing.

Watch as Mandy evokes emotion (of the good kind) from hard-to-please judge Simon Cowell.

May Mandy’s story inspire you to never give up on your dream!
