Micho pleased with opening day victory

Orlando Pirates head coach Milutin Sredejovic says their opening day triumph over Chippa United is the first step to regaining confidence amongst his squad.

After a turbulent season finishing in 13th place in the Premiership, Micho returned to Mayfair after nearly a decade since his first stint at the club.

And the start of his second tenure got off to a positive start with a new-look Buccaneers line-up producing the tactical discipline that was often lacking in their below-par 2016/17 campaign.

The much maligned Thamsanqa Gabuza scored the only goal of the game as the Sea Robbers secured all three points over the Chilli Boys at the Orlando Stadium.

“We had a very tough game this evening. Chippa United took the game to us and at times they asked us a lot of questions,” he said after the game. “But fortunately my players were always on hand to answer to the challenge from the visitors.

“In terms of our overall performance, I would say there’s still room for improvement but in terms of the result, I am very happy because this is something we targeted before the game.

“It’s evident at this point in time that we are lacking self-confidence especially from a peculiar season we come from. We came into this game wanting a win to regain confidence.

“We need to improve on certain aspects but confidence comes with winning and I have to be happy with that.”
