Eric Mathoho reached the milestone of 150 appearances for Kaizer Chiefs in last Saturday’s 3-0 Nedbank Cup victory over Stellenbosch FC in Cape Town.
Since joining the side in 2012 from Bloemfontein Celtic, the giant defender has gone on to become a real stalwart for the Glamour Boys in the heart of the back four.
It was his partnership alongside Tefu Mashamaite that helped Amakhosi to a Premiership title in 2014/15 under Stuart Baxter, and he has since established a solid combination with Lorenzo Gordinho as well.
In addition, the player has become a regular for Bafana Bafana and is arguably South Africa’s most dominant centre-back at the moment in the domestic game.
The Thohoyandou-born star recently signed a new two-year deal with the Steve Komphela-coached outfit, and he looks well set to break further records for Chiefs.
The club’s official website said, “The lanky defender played in his 150th official game wearing the Gold and Black jersey (142 starts and 8 subs).”
