The player’s future was seemingly in limbo with his deal coming to an end in June, however, it has been confirmed by Soccer Laduma that he will continue to ply his trade at Chloorkop.
The publication said: “A source has since confirmed that the option on the 28-year-old’s contract has since been exercised, with indications that Head Coach, Pitso Mosimane, still wants the player as part of his plans for the upcoming campaign.”
The 28-year-old initially enjoyed new shelf life as a left-back after arriving at Downs as an out-and-out left winger. Yet, Tebogo Langerman’s good form limited Mashaba to just 15 appearances in all competitions last season.
Nonetheless, the versatile star will have further chance to fight for his position in 2017/18, as the club will no doubt have a busy schedule both domestically and in Africa.
