While far from consistent in the Premier League, where they sit fifth in the standings, the Reds returned to winning ways with a 3-2 success over Leicester City, and face Spartak Moscow away in midweek.
“I’m confident that we can beat anyone in the Premier League and especially in Europe,” said the Senegal international forward, whose domestic suspension won’t apply in Russia.
“It is too early to say that we can win the Champions League for the sixth time but we are here to do our best and win trophies for the club.
“And we still believe we have a good defence. The whole team have to take responsibility because if we score more goals than the opposition we win the game. We don’t have a problem in defence.
“We have great quality in the team, great players. It is a joy to play alongside all of them. It is a very happy club.”
Group E of the Champions League is wide open on account of two stalemates on matchday one, with the Reds drawing 2-2 with Sevilla while Spartak were held by Maribor.
