Kuzwayo, who is the Rural and Township Development Manager at the KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union, took home the award for Administrator of the Year, while Maharaj claimed the Newcomer of the Year accolade.
For 10 years Kuzwayo has been heavily involved in organising the annual KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union, KZN Department of Sport and Recreation and Sunfoil Township Schools Tournament at Hilton College.
The 2017 edition of the tournament saw close to 300 cricketers from around the country take part in a six day tournament and for Kuzwayo it is no time to rest on her laurels as she continues to strive to reach the goal she set for herself when she took on the job two years ago.
“For me the vision still remains to make sure that we take cricket to all corners of KZN,” she said.
“We want to make sure that we help children overcome the challenges of their disadvantaged background and play competitive cricket.
“I am very excited and humbled at the same time to have received this award. It shows that the teamwork, commitment and passion that my team and I have shown for the past years until today is now bearing fruit.”
The annual KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union, KZN Department of Sport and Recreation and Sunfoil Township Schools Tournament has grown immensely in the past ten years and Kuzwayo believes that their goal is to maintain this high level of competition.
“The tournament has hit a peak but we need to continue to strive to maintain that top class level of cricket.
“The talent that is displayed throughout the tournament shows that our players have a strong understanding of the game of cricket,” she added.
