Mabokgwane wants Bucs to set tone versus Chippa

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane has stressed the importance of a good performance against Chippa United, in Saturday’s Premiership clash at Orlando Stadium.

The Sea Robbers endured an awful 2016/17 campaign in which they finished outside of the PSL top eight for the first time, and suffered a number of heavy defeats along the way as well.

In addition, a number of coaches came and went with Muhsin Ertugral first to resign, with interim coach Augusto Palacios also not lasting very long. Soon to follow suit was Kjell Jonevret, who was replaced by current incumbent Milutin Sredojevic.

As such, Mabokgwane wants Bucs to get off to a positive start on Saturday evening against Chippa. He told reporters, “The only way to understand how much we want to see positive changes this season is by making it a point that we give our best performance in our first game.

“I think it will set a tone on how willing and strong-minded we are about getting the team back to being the best in the league. Pirates are a big team that are always anticipating trophies, that is how it is supposed to be.”

Pirates’ first game will take place in Orlando this evening with Sredojevic taking control for the first time, in his second spell at the club. The action gets underway from 18:00.
