Koeman: Barkley situation remains unclear

Everton manager Ronaldo Koeman has admitted he doesn’t know what will happen to unsettled midfielder Ross Barkley this season.

Koeman gave the 23-year-old an ultimatum that he will be sold if he refuses to sign the new deal he’s been offered, but he remains at the club despite turning down the contract.

Barkley is in the final year of his current contract, which may force Koeman to cash in on him while he still can, especially after an active transfer window for the Toffees.

The Englishman was not included in Koeman’s squad that travelled to Tanzania to play a pre-season friendly against Gor Mahia.

“At the moment it is not a clear situation. He is not fit, that’s the reason he didn’t travel with the team,” Koeman told the Liverpool Echo.

“We will see when he is fit and back, but everybody knows his situation, and we will see what will happen.”
