Jubilant Chiefs hail fifth Macufe Cup gold medal

A jubilant Kaizer Chiefs expressed delight at winning a fifth Macufe Cup title, after beating Bloemfontein Celtic 4-2 in Sunday’s clash at the Free State Stadium.

There were goals for Dumisani Zuma, Siyabonga Ngezana, Bernard Parker, and Ryan Moon as the Glamour Boys eventually swept aside Siwelele in what was one of their best performances of the season so far. Celtic’s strikes came from Victor Letsoalo’s brace.

As such, Chiefs may take confidence from the result as they look to get their domestic campaign in the Premiership, and in official cup competitions, back on track. Currently, Steve Komphela’s men are in sixth place in the standings.

Nonetheless, the Naturena-based outfit have celebrated Sunday’s triumph and revealed the club have tied the record for winning the Macufe crown on the most occasions.

The team’s official website said, “Amakhosi emerged triumphant in the Macufe Cup, which was played on Sunday afternoon at the sold out Free State Stadium…It was Amakhosi’s fifth gold medal, equalling Celtic’s trophy count in the Macufe Cup.”
