ICASA takes first steps in tackling high data costs

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa)  has launched an inquiry into the high cost of communication in the country.

Icasa will have an online questionnaire where opinions on the issue can be shared with the regulator.

Icasa’s Paseka Maleka says that this starts the process of the inquiry and will be followed by a  discussion document (to be published later), leading to public hearings.

“That discussion document, we’ll also publish it out for public comments and then after that, we’ll be doing some public hearings and developing a findings document. That findings document will assist Icasa  in what matters need to be regulated, what regulations can be put up and how far can we go.”

The questionnaire will be available on Icasa’s  website and at its head office.
