Bafana Bafana manager Stuart Baxter has named Thulani Hlatswayo as the national team’s new permanent captain.
Changing tack from his predecessor Shakes Mashaba, who rotated the armband among multiple players, Baxter says that the Bidvest Wits defender is most deserving of the honour and responsibility of the role.
“Hlatshwayo will captain Bafana Bafana,” Baxter said, quoted via the Bafana’s official Twitter account.
“He has all qualities of Captain, playing regularly, has experience and leads by example.
“The Captain’s armband should be valued, not rotated and moved across 16 players. So this is permanent.”
Hlatshwayo’s first match as skipper will be against Nigeria in Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
