SAFA have appointed respected goalkeeper coach Alex Heredia as an assistant to Stuart Baxter on a temporary basis for the AFCON qualifier against Nigeria.
The appointment is not permanent and Baxter will recruit his own team after the match with the Super Eagles in Uyo is concluded. Previously, Heredia has worked for Bafana at the AFCON tournaments in 2003 and in 2013 under different coaches.
The Argentine has not had a coaching position since his contract with SuperSport United was terminated early in 2016 by SuperSport United. The 59-year-old will be a part of Baxter’s technical team as he takes charge of his first match in his second stint with the national side.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s preparations for the encounter are on track after they beat Togo 3-1 earlier last week with Leicester City’s Ahmed Musa grabbing a brace, and a strike by Kelechi Iheanacho of Manchester City.
