Gio excited for Champions League return

Feyenoord head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst admits he cannot contain his excitement after bringing UEFA Champions League football to De Kuip this season.

After winning the Eredivisie for the first time since 1999, Van Bronckhorst, who won the trophy as a player with Barcelona, described the fond memories he experienced as a player and feels his youthful squad will benefit immensely amongst Europe’s elite clubs.

“It’s special,” he told Feyenoord TV. “I won the Champions League with Barcelona as a player. For me, it’s a competition full of many great memories from the great matches I played.

“Not only for Barcelona, Glasgow Rangers and Arsenal, but in my first period at Feyenoord too.

“The experience will now be a little different for me as a coach. But for the experience and development of my players, playing in the Champions League against an out-and-out top team is very valuable.”

De Stadionclub take on Manchester City on Wednesday evening to kick off their Group F campaign.
