FNB wins another global award

FNB shared the title for Excellence in Mobile Banking with Sterling Bank Nigeria at the Lafferty Global Awards on Wednesday night.

The South African bank was lauded for its innovation in mobile technology. The bank has been able to successfully make its mobile platform one of the preferred channels for customers to use, allowing them to securely and conveniently manage their financial affairs.

The FNB Banking App was also recognized as having the ‘Best Mobile System/Service Initiative’ at the Annual Banking Technology Awards 2016 in London three weeks ago.

The App has received rave reviews globally, and recently also won ‘Best in Customer Experience’. In addition, FNB was also named Most Innovative Bank in Africa.

FNB has been involved in mobile banking since 2002. Back then, they launched an SMS-based banking alert service, inContact, followed by cell phone banking in 2004. In 2011 they launched the first banking app in South Africa as well as Smart Devices.

Speaking of FNB’s innovative spirit, Yolande Steyn, Head of Innovation at FNB, said, “FNB’s innovative spirit has recently seen the launch of the FNB App 5.0 bringing FNB Pay, a first in Africa, allowing Android smartphone customers to pay by tapping their phone on a contactless point of sale terminal, removing the need for cash and cards.”

Other innovative security measures in the app include Smart inContact, an approval system for customers which eliminates the risk of sim swap fraud,as well as allowing fraud to be reported in one touch when suspicious transactions are spotted.

FNB’s innovations stretched into delivering a branded sim card in 2015, as well as a branded FNB CoNexis smartphone.

The Lafferty Global Awards acknowledge and honour durable and sustainable excellence, as well as the creative and inventive methods to improve customer experience in the financial sector internationally.
