Espanyol boss Quique Sanchez Flores felt his side made it hard for themselves as they defeated Las Palmas in a seven-goal La Liga thriller at the RCDE Stadium on Friday night.
David Lopez got the hosts underway with his first minute goal before a 31st minute Mauricio Lemos equaliser.
Gerard Moreno restored his side’s lead in first-half stoppage time ahead of a second equaliser from Lemos, after 49 minutes.
Pablo Piatti put Espanyol ahead again, from the penalty spot on 53 minutes before Jose Jurado gave his side some breathing space with a fourth goal, on 74 minutes.
Mateo Garcia though ensured a tense finish when he scored La Palmas’ third six minutes from time.
Speaking after the game, Flores told the club’s website: “We are growing. In front of us we had a very consolidated team, but we have shown that we are strong in attack.
“The key today was not to do what they have done for many minutes of the first part. When they catch the ball it is very difficult to take it off.
“The second half has gone better. I can not be happy with the second and third goal. It seemed that we had everything done but it was not so.”
He concluded: “In the first half we were not prepared to defend back, but we could not keep up the pace. On the other hand, in the second half, we did find the match we wanted.”
