Barcelona manager Luis Enrique believes Lionel Messi’s international suspension will benefit him in the long run, because he needed some rest.
The Argentina captain was hit with a four-game ban for abusive language he directed towards an official during the World Cup qualifier against Chile.
He consequently missed Argentina’s 2-0 defeat to Bolivia and Barca’s 4-1 win over Granada, but will return to action for the Blaugrana against Sevilla on Wednesday.
“The fixture list is overloaded enough as it is and then you have the international games,” Luis Enrique told the press, according to Football Espana.
“That’s why I think this mini break is very positive for him – he’s now prepared to compete and to be where we all want to see him – on the pitch.”
