The Argentina international gave an insightful interview with the club’s official website in which he highlighted the importance of their Cup victory over League champions Monaco.
“It was important for us to win the Coupe de la Ligue,” he told the club’s website. “When you reach a final, it’s important to give everything to have just one sole aim: winning.
“We’re competitors, we want to win every match we play, and playing in such a game, a final, can only be a source of motivation. In that final, we were on top form.
“We were playing against a quality team that was having an impressive season. Because of our work, we were able to meet expectations and get the better of Monaco,” he added.
The 29-year old playmaker, recently convicted of committing tax fraud in his four years at Real Madrid, went on to laud 35-goal hero Edinson Cavani, saying the Uruguayan can be compared with the world’s best.
“Edi is an impressive player,” he stated.
“He knows how to move, to get away from his marker, and he’s always in the right area in the penalty box. He always tries to anticipate as best he can the defenders’ movements.
“We saw that against Monaco once again, he scored two great goals. He has had an incredible season, has met expectations and has proven that he’s one of the best centre-forwards on the planet.”
