The 20-year old winger, who enjoyed a stellar first season in Germany with 10 goals and 21 assists across all competitions, has been repeatedly linked with a move to a number of Europe’s elite clubs over recent months, with La Liga and Champions League winners, Real Madrid, reportedly the most likely candidates to land his signature.
The player put an end to speculation on Friday, however, when he made his intentions to remain with the club crystal clear to reporters.
“To be honest, this speculation doesn’t interest me at all,” he said. “I like being here in Dortmund and I decided to join Dortmund after my time at Rennes consciously.”
When asked about his relationship with Aubameyang, the young France international revealed how deeply he appreciates the friendship that the two players have cultivated during a single season of playing together.
“I’m happy that he will continue playing for us,” Demebele said of the 2016/17 season’s top-scorer. “He’s like a brother to me.”
Aubameyang and Dembele will resume their partnership on Saturday 5 August when Dortmund take on Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in the DFL Supercup Final.
Peter Bosz’s side kick off their Bundesliga campaign with a trip to Wolfsburg two weeks later.
