Davids: I’m really delighted

With four games remaining of the season, and with the club on course of meeting their target of a top eight finish, Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids says he is delighted by the effort of his players.

After an impressive run that has seen them win three matches on the trot, United find themselves in a comfortable position of seventh, and last season’s frantic relegation struggle is a thing of the past.

The Team of Choice stunned title chasing Cape Town City by beating them 1-0 at Harry Gwala Stadium in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday, but caretaker coach Davids has remained cautious.

“To stop a team like Cape Town City in the way we did was absolutely fantastic. The players will have to take all the credit to be able to follow everything we absorbed asking for,” Davids was quoted by his club’s website.

At this stage last season, United were rooted to the foot of the table, but while relegation was never a worry for the club this campaign, Davids was pleased that the three points picked up on Monday mathematically means they’re safe.

“Last season this time, we were rooted at the bottom. So I’m really delighted for the players,” he said.
