City lead race for Xulu signature

South Africa international defender Siyanda Xulu is set to part ways with Kaizer Chiefs on Monday and is likely to join a domestic rival.

According to IOL, Cape Town City is in negotiations to bring the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Rostov defender to the ambitious Premiership side.

Indian Super League giants Atletico de Kolkata have also been in contact with Xulu’s representatives but the opportunity to work under Citizens boss Benni McCarthy may prove to be the decisive factor for the towering central defender.

“Xulu has offers locally and abroad. Benni McCarthy wants to sign him at Cape Town City,” a source told the Independent Online.

“But he is competing with Atletico Madrid’s franchise, Atletico de Kolkata, who campaign in the Indian Super League. They have already tabled an offer for Xulu.”

After only one appearance in the league last season, the 25-year-old will be looking to reignite his career that’s been on a downward spiral since leaving Russia in 2015.
