Chiefs’ Gordinho inspired by Chelsea legend Terry

Kaizer Chiefs star Lorenzo Gordinho has revealed that legendary former Chelsea central defender and captain, John Terry, is the player who most inspires him on the field of play.

Terry spent 19 years with the Blues during which time he won virtually every major honour at the hghest level of European club football. In addition, he made 78 appearances for the England national side as well.

Now 36, the strong centre-back is in the twilight of his career with Aston Villa in England’s second tier. Nonetheless, Gordinho, who has become a regular under coach Steve Komphela at the heart of the defence in recent seasons, says Terry is his hero.

He told Amakhosi’s official website, “I liked the way he defended and played, while also being the captain of the team.”

In addition, the Bafana Bafana international says he is an ardent reader of materials that promote a positive frame of mind, adding, “It’s a book (The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle) about the mind and it’s about living in the present moment. When it comes to soccer this means that I must not dwell too much on the past. It’s about looking forward and to work hard on becoming a better player and individual.”
