Chiefs boss says six teams in PSL title race

Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung believes there are still six clubs, including Amakhosi, that stand a good chance of winning the Premiership title.

Chiefs are fourth in the standings, but are only one point behind the three joint leaders – SuperSport United, Bidvest Wits and Cape Town City.

Polokwane City are in fifth position, three points adrift of Amakhosi, while 2015/16 champions Mamelodi Sundowns are in seventh place, six points off hte summit, but have played between four and six fewer matches than those above them due to their participation in the CAF Champions League and Club World Cup.

“There’s nothing in it. We are one point behind the leaders,” Motaung told the Daily Sun.

“Apart from Mamelodi Sundowns who have games in hand, anybody in the top five at present could win the league. That’s what makes this season so interesting and exciting.”

Motaung says the mood in the Glamour Boys’ camp is positive after a good end to 2016 which saw two successive wins ahead of Christmas.

“We have two goals in the second round. We are challenging for the league and the Nedbank Cup,” he declared.

“The turnaround at the end of the year has given the players inspiration and motivation. We believe we can achieve our goals. We are still in with a chance,” Motaung added.

The club has meanwhile had several players on trial and it has been reported that they will soon announce some mid-season signings.
